Squaretalk allows you to change how an extension connects to the system at any time.
Changing the extension type does not remove the user’s history or settings.
Go to Settings → Users & Permissions → Users and click on the user (or user row) you want to update.
A side panel will open with all User settings
Go to the Extension tab inside the panel and edit any extension-related details.
Locate the Type of Extension dropdown and select your preferred option.
📌 Important: You will need to configure the calling device in case the user has a SIP or SIP/TLS Extension Type.
📌 To learn more details, see: How to Configure the Softphone for SIP Extensions and How to Connect a SIP/TLS Extension to the Softphone.
Use this for browser-based calling inside the Squaretalk dashboard.
This is the simplest option because it requires no external device or software.
Use this if the agent will use:
a software (example: Softphone, Zoiper, MicroSIP)
a physical IP desk phone
You will find the SIP credentials to configure the device in the Squaretalk Platform.
Use this for encrypted and secure SIP calling.
This option is recommended for:
high-security environments
compliance-based businesses
organizations requiring encrypted communication
